Humane dispatch, record keeping and tissue sampling are all important parts of good practice after a capture. Waterlife Recovery Trust’s guidance explains how to dispatch a mink humanely, what information to record, and why that information helps improve understanding of the mink population.
The Trust asks trappers to record the date and place of capture, sex, and, where possible, weight, length, a photograph and a tissue sample for DNA analysis. This information can make a valuable contribution to population monitoring and wider project work.
